Stuff about that game
These days I live in Austin, where I’m a PhD student and assistant instructor in the English Department at the University of Texas. My research primarily concerns the impact of empire on the 19th century novel and the ways both narrative and technological innovations changed how people understood the world around them. I also have interests in 18th century georgic poetry, early cinema, and the digital humanities.
Outside of my work in those areas, I enjoy thinking and writing about the communicative possibilities of game design. You can find more information about that interest on my research page. I also have developed several games which cover topics as diverse as the role of local power in 1830s Afghanistan and incentive structures that operate within for-profit education models.
I occasionally take on graphic design work as well. A partial portfolio can be found on my design page.
It’s 1833. The East India Company has just had its monopoly of trade revoked by an official act of Parliament. In its place, numerous smaller firms look to profit in the Far East. Soon businesses open in Canton. Operating between the British Empire, the East India Company, and the Chinese Government, these merchant-adventures redefined the limits of corporate power and altered the course of history.
